New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday he doesn't know what Donald Trump's plans are after the real estate mogul said Christie is a potential running mate.
"I have no idea. You'll have to ask Donald that," Christie said when asked about being on Trump's vice presidential shortlist,
reports CNN.
"I was on the shortlist last time too," Christie added, referencing the 2012 presidential campaign of Mitt Romney. "So it doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot."
Romney eventually chose Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate; Ryan is now the Speaker of the House.
Trump said Tuesday he has put together a
list of potential vice presidential candidates. Christie's role as the
leader of Trump's transition team does not put him out of consideration to earn the No. 2 spot on the ticket, Trump said.
Newsmax's
John Gizzi reported Wednesday that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at the top of Trump's VP list.
Trump said he will not announce his running mate before this summer's Republican National Convention, scheduled for July 18-21 on Cleveland.
