Donald Trump is attractive to the "Archie Bunker[s] of the world" who "know they're getting screwed," billionaire Carl Icahn said Tuesday on CNBC's "Fast Money: Halftime Report," comparing the voters following the Republican presidential nominee to the grumpy old man from "All in the Family."

"I don't mean it in any derogatory way," Icahn said when asked about the potentially controversial characterization of Trump's voters as the bigoted character from the '70s TV sitcom.

"I mean let's clear it up: Archie Bunker is a middle class guy — somewhat educated even — that doesn't know where his next check is coming to send his son or daughter to school. Doesn't know if he's going to keep his job. He's a bright guy. And he reads stuff today. It's not like Tsarist Russia, where you are a serf.

"Why the hell should you vote for a system that is not giving them a good-paying job? And you know that's true."

Icahn appeared on CNBC to support Trump's tax plan laid out Monday in Detroit.

"Our country can't exist when the government is at war with business," Icahn said via telephone.

"If [Trump] sticks with that economic theme, he should definitely win hands down. I don't know what you wouldn't vote for him."
