WashPost's Bernstein: Trump Russia Comments 'Disqualifying Event'

Renowned Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein on Wednesday said he considers Republican nominee Donald Trump unfit to be Commander in Chief, The Hill's Mark Hensch wrote.

"We have reached a tipping point in this election," Bernstein said on CNN, referring to Trump's call for a suspected Russian hacker to release Hillary Clinton's deleted emails. "It ought to be apparent to all, and the Democrats should be able to make the case, that he is manifestly unsuited to be the president of the United States because of his recklessness with the national security.

"This is a disqualifying event for a president of the United States."

Inviting a foreign hack of state secrets is a deal-breaker for Bernstein — not to mention many others Wednesday, including Republicans and former NSA and CIA Director Michael Hayden.

Bernstein was one of the original reporters of the Watergate scandal that led to President Nixon's resignation in 1974. He is now a regular political commentator on CNN.
