President Donald Trump on Monday said he will likely do a "customary" Cabinet shake-up after the midterm elections — but it will not include Defense Secretary James Mattis.
"Administrations make changes usually after midterms, and probably we'll be right in that category too," the president told reporters, The Washington Times reported. "I think it's very customary."
"For the most part, I love my Cabinet," he declared, the news outlet reported.
Among the likeliest departure is Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the news outlet reported — and Trump said he will name a successor for U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley by the end of the week.
He also said he would "take a look" at reports of ethics violations by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, but praised him for having "done a very good job," The Washington Times reported.
But when asked if he would replace Mattis, Trump asked, "Why would I do that? Is that the new rumor? No."
