Donald Trump "loves this country" and shouldn't be demonized by those who have a different approach on how to solve the nation's ills, "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston says.
In an interview Tuesday on CNN, the actor, whose new film "All the Way" about Lyndon Johnson debuts on HBO this Saturday, bemoaned the divisive atmosphere in today's politics.
"I want to promulgate the idea that just because someone has a different opinion than yours it does not make them the enemy," he tells "The Lead" host Jake Tapper.
"So I will say right here, right now, on national television that I believe Donald Trump loves this country," he declares about the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee.
"I truly believe that, and I know he does. It's just that his approach on how to remedy America's problems differ greatly from what I think should happen."
Cranston says being open to someone else's opinion has a vital role in political discourse —and that he'd be open to sitting down with a Trump supporter.
"So if I were to meet a Trump supporter, the first thing I would want to discuss is what are the issues that led you to that decision and I want to know about that," he said. "And not to make them wrong, but just understand."
Cranston has spoken kindly about Trump before, admiring his "candor" last August, and calling it
"refreshing" that Trump was "shaking up" the establishment and"really kind of keeps others honest."
"I think it's a surprise benefit to the country, actually," he said at the time.
