Four Department of Homeland Security advisory council members quit in protest over what they called the "morally repugnant" immigration policies of the Trump administration, The Washington Post reported.
Chiefly, the four – including former secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig and former Democratic congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman – resigned over the administration's policy of separating families at the border, the Post reports.
They resigned Monday in a letter to DHS chief Kirstjen Nielsen.
"Were we consulted, we would have observed that routinely taking children from migrant parents was morally repugnant, counter-productive and ill-considered," the group wrote, the Post reported.
"We cannot tolerate association with the immigration policies of this administration, nor the illusion that we are consulted on these matters," they wrote.
Separately, Holtzman told the Post "it's important for the American people to see that not everybody connected with the government is a brute, is a lawbreaker, and that actually some of us do have a measure of conscience."
Former Obama administration officials David Martin, former DHS deputy general counsel, and Matthew Olsen, who served as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, were the other two to sign the letter to Nielsen, the Post reported.
