A majority of likely voters say they plan to vote for former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a new poll.

A Yahoo News/YouGov poll released Monday indicates Biden has an 11-point lead over President Donald Trump among likely voters. Pollsters say it is the largest margin among likely voters in any Yahoo News/YouGov poll to date.

Poll results show:

  • 51% of likely voters say they will vote for Biden.
  • 40% of likely voters say they will reelect Trump.
  • 44% of registered voters say Biden will likely win the election.
  • 38% of registered voters think Trump will be victorious.
  • 38% of likely voters say they have already voted.
  • 5% of likely voters say they are still undecided on who they will support.
  • 3% of likely voters say there is a chance they will change their mind on who to vote for.
  • 52% of voters say Biden would do a better job handling the coronavirus pandemic, compared to 33% who feel Trump would do a better job.
  • 59% of voters say Trump has underestimated the risks of COVID-19.

According to the poll results, a majority of voters, 60%, don’t believe Trump is following the advice of medical experts closely enough when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. A majority, 63%, say the president isn’t wearing a mask or social distancing appropriately. Fifty-four percent of voters say Biden has handled the pandemic appropriately.

Poll results also indicate that Trump is losing support from independents, suburban voters, and other key demographic groups. Nine percent of 2016 Trump voters say they will back Biden. Independents are narrowly favoring Biden, 39%, over Trump, 37%. He is behind 36% to Biden’s 50% among suburban voters.

Of voters who may change their mind on who to support, 1% of Biden voters say they could still change their mind compared to 7% of Trump voters.

Pollsters predict that among ballots already cast, Biden leads the president 71% to 25%. Over half, 52% of Biden voters, say they have already voted, while only 24% of Trump supporters say they have cast their ballots. Half of Trump backers say they will wait until Nov. 3 to vote. Only 16% of Biden supporters say they will wait that long to vote.

The Yahoo News survey was conducted by YouGov between Oct. 16-18. The poll surveyed 1,583 registered voters. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 4 percent.
