One of the most accurate polls of the 2016 presidential election, the Investors Business Daily/TIPP poll shows a tightening race between Democrat Joe Biden and President Donald Trump among likely voters.

The race is the closest since the daily tracking poll started Oct. 12, down to just 5 points nationally, which is just outside the margin of error.

The results in a four-way race:

  1. Biden 49.5%.
  2. Trump 44.5%.
  3. Libertarian Jo Jorgensen 2.4%.
  4. Green Party Howie Hawkins 1%.

Biden held a lead as much as 8.6 percentage points just this Tuesday, and Biden's high in support was 51.9%, per the poll.

Even the head-to-head matchup between the top party candidates has tightened to 5.7 percentage points, as Biden has slipped down almost 3 points while Trump has gained 2 points.

The poll does suggest Trump is not quite as strong as he was in 2016 among independents, seniors, suburbs, Blacks, Hispanics, whites, and men.

Furthermore,  8% of Trump's 2016 voters say they are flipping to Biden this election.

IBD/TIPP 2020 polled 1,021 likely voters Oct. 13-17 including 384 Democrats, 344 Republicans, and 287 independents, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
