Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has yet to formally drop out of the Democratic presidential primary, conceded nevertheless on Wednesday that "it doesn't appear that I'm going to be the nominee."

In an hourlong interview with C-SPAN, the senator from Vermont has steadfastly vowed to push his progressive policy agenda at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next month.

The remark starts at about the 26-minute mark.

"It doesn't appear that I'm going to be the nominee, so I'm not going to be determining the scope of the convention," Sanders said in answer to whether he had prepared a speech for the convention.

The comment suggests that despite the fact that he's signaled he plans to use his 1,879 delegates to wring concessions from Hillary Clinton and her supporters in Philadelphia, he understands that his leverage may ultimately prove limited, Politico notes.

Still, Sanders said he remains determined to press for reforms to the party's nominating process, particularly the superdelegate system that gave Clinton an insurmountable advantage.

"They should reflect the votes of the people in their states. We have won states with 70, 80 percent of the vote where superdelegates are going to vote for my opponent," Sanders tells C-SPAN. "That's not terribly democratic."
