Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders expressed reservations Tuesday about winning the New York primary, saying "I am nervous" and that "we're fighting for every vote that we can."
"If the voter turnout is high in New York State, I think we're going to do very well," Sanders told
Rita Cosby on WABC radio earlier Tuesday. "If the voter turnout is low, we may not do so well.
"It is important that we do very, very well here today," the Vermont senator added. "We need delegates, and I hope we are going to win some tonight."
Polls are showing that front-runner Hillary Clinton is expected to win the primary and the state's 247 delegates.
"The polls have underestimated our strength for a variety of reasons," Sanders said, however.
He talked with Cosby from Pennsylvania and denied that he was conceding the race to Clinton by not being in the Empire State.
"No, no, no," he said. "We're fighting for every vote that we can.
"We have been met with incredible warmth and hospitality — and we think we got a good chance to win this."
