Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., accused President-elect Donald Trump of "hypocrisy" for nominating former Wall Street financier Steven Mnuchin and other Washington insiders and billionaires for top positions within his incoming administration.
Sanders, who lost the Democratic primary to Hillary Clinton, let loose Wednesday on Twitter:
Mnuchin, 53, who was Trump's campaign finance chairman, confirmed Wednesday the president-elect nominated him for Treasury secretary.
He is a former Goldman Sachs partner, hedge fund owner, and Hollywood movie financier. In addition, Trump also nominated billionaire investor Wilbur Ross, 79, as Commerce secretary. Both nominations must be confirmed by the Senate.
The president-elect also named Todd Ricketts, co-owner of the Chicago Cubs and the son of one of his top campaign donors, as deputy Commerce secretary.
Mnuchin will be the second Goldman Sachs alumnus with a key role in the Trump White House, following Stephen Bannon as chief strategist and senior counselor.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mnuchin would become the third former Goldman Sachs executive to head the Treasury Department since the mid-1990s.
