The Bernie Sanders campaign said Thursday that it had suspended its Jewish outreach coordinator — two days after announcing her hiring — amid reports that she had posted derogatory Facebook messages about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Simone Zimmerman was suspended "while we investigate the matter," Michael Briggs, a spokesman for the campaign,
told The New York Times.
The
Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday that Zimmerman posted a Facebook message last March calling Netanyahu an "arrogant, deceptive, cynical, manipulative a—hole" and said that he "sanctioned the murder of over 2,000 people this summer."
According to the Times, Zimmerman has a record of attacking Israeli settlements and the nation's policies in the West Bank and Gaza.
Abe Foxman, the former national director of the Anti-Defamation League, has also called for her firing, the Times reports.
