Best-selling author Stephen King said Tuesday that when he speaks out against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, he's not speaking as a celebrity, but as an American citizen, and he's "very concerned" about this election.
"I have to say what I feel, and I'm very concerned about this election," King told the
"CBS This Morning" program, where he made an appearance to discuss his latest novel,
"End of Watch," the final part of his best-selling Bill Hodges trilogy that started with "Mr. Mercedes."
On the same program King shot back at criticism made when celebrities such as himself make political comments.
"I hate the idea when people come back and say "this celebrity said this and this celebrity said that," he told the show's panel. "At the bottom, we're all just Americans and we vote and we're citizens and we talk about politics on Twitter the same way anyone else does."
And King pointed out that he is from Maine, where Gov. Paul LePage is a major Trump supporter. After seeing LePage in office over the years, "I'm just very concerned" over Trump.
King has not only posted several biting shots at Trump on his official
Twitter page, but he also recently added his signature to an online
Trump protest letter, turning a petition started by authors on a literary website into a huge magnet for other anti-Trump writers.
