Nearly 80 anti-abortion groups sent a joint letter to congressional Republicans urging them to come up with new legislation to defund Planned Parenthood, the Washington Examiner reported.
With the failure of Republicans to even get a vote on their American Health Care Act legislation one week ago, with it down the tubes went a provision to pull Medicaid funding for the abortion provider.
Now 77 state and federal anti-abortion groups — including the Susan B. Anthony List and March for Life Education and Defense Fund — are calling for a new reconciliation bill now, the Examiner reported.
"For years promises have been made, and the time has come to deliver," the groups said in a letter to GOP leadership, the Examiner reported. "Reconciliation language to do this already cleared procedural hurdles in the last Congress. Moreover, Congress has the votes to get it done now, and President Trump has promised his signature."
The White House on Monday already said it's exploring "other opportunities" to defund Planned Parenthood.
"I don't want to get ahead of our legislative strategy. We'll look at other opportunities, but this was definitely one that was a way to make that happen," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said of the failed AHCA legislation.
