Anti-abortion groups are looking for President-elect Donald Trump to start toughening abortion policies as soon as he takes office, The Hill reports.
Until Trump makes his choice to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, there are other areas where he can start making his mark on abortion policy, according to the website.
The anti-abortion activists are hoping Trump removes Obamacare's requirements for religious organizations to cover contraception in their insurance plans. The Hill notes some religious groups running hospital or schools oppose the provision because it violates their religious beliefs.
They are also pushing for Trump to ease rules that make it more difficult to cut funding from Planned Parenthood and want him to prevent foreign aid money from being used for abortions, the website says.
Some groups had been skeptical of Trump because his views on abortion have changed throughout the years, The Hill notes. But now those concerns appear to have been eased.
"We're very confident," The Hill quotes Mallory Quigley, communications director for the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List. "He really proved himself."
The activists say Trump's selection of abortion opponents, including Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., for secretary of Health and Human Services and Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., have made them more comfortable with the president-elect.
The New York Times reports both side in the fight over legalized abortions admit the Trump presidency could have a major impact.
The paper points out, both sides now agree overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark l973 abortion decision, will be a possibility during the Trump administration.
