Students for Life of America, a national anti-abortion group, is helping to back a planned school walkout designed to protest abortions, The Hill reports.
The organization said it is offering "resources, legal help and training" for those planning to walk out of their classrooms on April 11. Plans for the protest came after a nationwide walkout of students demonstrating against gun violence.
California high school student Brandon Gillespie is organizing the walkout. Gillespie told CBS13 in Sacramento, California that his history teacher, Julianne Benzel inspired the idea.
According to the television station, Benzel was placed on administrative leave when she asked if there was a double standard regarding the walkout over gun violence.
"I would like a conversation about when is too much? And are we going allow this on the other side?" she reportedly said.
Students had walked out nationwide on March 14 — one month after 17 people were shot to death at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Now, Students for Life said that "leading pro-family and pro-life organizations" will be supporting the abortion protests.
"I just want to spread awareness about the cruel things that are happening in Planned Parenthood clinics across the country, the cruel murder of these children who have done nothing wrong," Gillespie said in a statement released by Students for Life of America.
