Romney’s Wife Chides Bill Clinton for Comments on Mitt

Ann Romney chided Bill Clinton after hearing that the former president said George Romney — her husband Mitt’s father — would be “turning over in his grave” about the presidential candidate’s opposition to the auto industry bailouts, Politico reports.

“Mitt’s father would be cheering and would be with Mitt 100 percent,” Ann Romney said on the “Fox & Friends” program. “What Mitt suggested was finally what happened, is that they went through a structured bankruptcy. It’s exactly what ended up happening. Mitt just said to do that before they already spent $17 billion.”

Clinton, in a speech to auto workers in Washington D.C., on Thursday, said: "Every time I hear Mr. Romney talking about this, I think his daddy must be turning over in his grave," The Detroit News reports

In addition to serving three terms as governor of Michigan, George Romney was chief executive of American Motors.

"We could not afford to lose 1.5 million to 2 million jobs," Clinton said in defense of the bailout begun by President George W. Bush and extended by President Barack Obama.

“I happened to think this auto industry package is the most important thing that was initiated by President Obama and the administration.”
