Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, called the Trump administration’s decision to not share intelligence briefings with Joe Biden “dangerous for national security.”
King’s comments came Thursday during an interview on CNN’s “New Day.” The show posted a video of the interview on its Twitter account.
“What’s at stake is the security of the United States,” he said. “If the president wants to contest these ballots in various states, he can do so. At the same time, you can allow the daily briefs so the president-elect can have the information necessary.
“Any transition is a moment of vulnerability when our adversaries look to take advantage. This is being done for no reason. It’s dangerous. It’s just downright dangerous for national security."
King maintained it was crucial that Biden be made aware of national security threats.
He did note that Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., has pledged to get involved if Biden does not get the briefings by Friday.
"There is no loss from (Biden) getting the briefings and to be able to do that and if that's not occurring by Friday I will step in as well…” Lankford said on Wednesday.
And King added: “(Lankford) ought to be joined by all his colleagues – by people who are involved in national security.”
Mainstream news organizations called the election for Biden on Saturday, but President Donald Trump has refused to concede, alleging election irregularities in several states, and has gone to court over the outcome. Newsmax has not called the race, instead waiting for the legal process to play out.
