New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, blamed conservatives on the U.S. Supreme Court for the decision against the coronavirus restrictions his state imposed on places of worship.
Cuomo dismissed the decision as ''really just an opportunity for the court to express its philosophy and politics,'' in comments to reporters on Thursday, according to The New York Times.
The court split largely down partisan lines, with Chief Justice John Roberts joining the three liberals on the court in siding with New York, and the rest siding against the state.
''You have a different court, and I think that was the statement that the court was making,'' the governor added. ''We know who he appointed to the court. We know their ideology.''
The Wall Street Journal notes that Cuomo added that the justices' decision is ''irrelevant from any practical impact because the zone that they were talking about has already been moot. I think this was really just an opportunity for the court to express its philosophy and politics.''
