A majority of voters want to see the Democratic Party take control of the House in midterm elections this year, according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday found 50 percent of voters want Democratic control in the House, while 39 percent would rather see the lower chamber in GOP hands.

Independents prefer Democratic control in the House 45-37 percent, the poll found.

Similarly, 52 percent of voters want Democrats in command in the Senate, compared with 40 percent who would prefer GOP control in the upper chamber.

The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percent.
