Fifty-two percent of Americans were satisfied with how the summit went last week between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, with 36 percent saying they were dissatisfied, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS and released on Tuesday.
However, 40 percent thought Kim got a better deal for his country, while only 35 percent thought that Trump got a better deal for the U.S.
Nearly half disapprove of Trump's decision to halt joint military exercises with South Korea, while only 40 percent agree with the move.
Other results from the survey include:
- Thirty-eight percent of Americans said the summit was a "major achievement," while 29 percent called it a "minor achievement" and 27 percent said it could not be characterized as an achievement.
- Eighty-five percent of Republicans said they were happy after the summit, while 52 percent of independents and 28 percent of Democrats said the same.
- The public's approval of how Trump is handling North Korea dropped by 5 percentage points since May to 48 percent. Eighty-six percent of Republicans approve and about half of independents, but only 21 percent of Democrats.
- The number of Americans who believe North Korea poses an immediate threat to the US has been cut in half since last year, but only 16 percent say it poses no threat at all.
- Only 38 percent say North Korea will give up a significant number of nuclear weapons by 2021, as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo predicted.
- Just 9 percent of Americans found Kim favorable, while 78 percent found him unfavorable.
- Only 22 percent think Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize following the summit.
The poll was conducted between June 14-17 among 1,012 adult Americans. The margin of sampling error was ±3.7%.
