Many American voters think the election system is rigged, according to the results of a new survey.

The Pew Research Center poll found that 49 percent of people think their vote will be counted properly in the November election, with a combined 22 percent saying they are not too confident or not at all confident.

That's compared to a combined 10 percent of voters who were not too confident or not at all confident about their vote being counted properly in October 2008.

The question is buried near the bottom of the poll data.

Republican nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly said the election system is rigged. Democrat Hillary Clinton beat out Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for their party's nomination, although leaked emails later showed Democratic National Committee officials favored Clinton and tried to influence the outcome of the primaries.

Trump released his first general election TV ad Friday, which takes a swipe at Clinton.

"In Hillary Clinton's America, the system stays rigged against Americans. Syrian refugees flood in; illegal immigrants convicted of committing crimes get to stay, collecting Social Security benefits, skipping the line," the ad begins.

"Donald Trump's America is secure; terrorists and dangerous criminals kept out; the border secure; our families safe," the ad concludes. "Change that makes America safe again."
