Ambien Maker: 'Racism Is Not a Known Side Effect'

Ambien Maker: 'Racism Is Not a Known Side Effect'

By    |   Wednesday, 30 May 2018 11:09 AM EDT

The pharmaceutical company that makes Ambien threw some classic shade at actress Roseanne Barr on Wednesday, tweeting that "racism is not a known side effect" of the sleep drug.

Sanofi was reacting to Barr's meager attempt at explaining away her racist tweets Tuesday that ricocheted around the world at light speed and led to the cancellation of her primetime show reboot, "Roseanne."

Barr said she was "ambien tweeting" at 2 a.m. in one of her many attempts to apologize for comparing Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

Barr on Wednesday tried to walk back the notion that she blamed the tweet on Ambien, calling it "an explanation, not an excuse."
