Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz on Friday told Newsmax the court case against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over an improper relationship with her lead prosecutor in the Georgia election interference proceeding is "about money."
In an interview on "Newsline," Dershowitz asserted Willis is "trying to serve two purposes; just trying to win the case."
"She's trying to win reelection, too," he said. "This was a good opportunity for her to show off her toughness and her determination. She was very tough, very adversarial, antagonistic — even whether it helped the case or not. ... I suspect it probably helped her in her reelection campaign."
But, Dershowitz said, "the main thing is that we have payments of money."
"And so I think, in the end, this is about money. And there's enough here for there to be an appearance of injustice and appearance that she may have benefited," he maintained.
Dershowitz also blasted the civil fraud case in New York City against former President Donald Trump, suggesting state Attorney General Letitia James should be investigated by the New York State Bar Association.
"It makes it feel that I have the right title for my book: 'Get Trump,'" he said. "I got that title from Letitia James.
"She campaigned on the issue. She ought to be subject to Bar investigations," he said.
"You do not, in America, target people and campaign against them if you're running for prosecutor. ... You do not base your campaign and your reelection on getting somebody. That's not the way prosecutors operate. And that's the way she operated in this case, and that's the way [Manhattan District Attorney Alvin] Bragg operated in the criminal case in Manhattan. And so both New York cases have been deeply tainted by political consideration."
