High blood pressure is more often associated with serious COVID-19 sickness requiring hospitalization than any other underlying condition, according to the CDC and other studies.

The CDC found hypertension to be the single most common underlying medical condition among 4,247 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 disease, at 58.6 percent. That was more than obesity (49.5 percent), metabolic disease (42.6 percent), cardiovascular disease (35.4 percent), and more than chronic lung disease (22.2 percent).
