Rep. Frank Wolf says his resolution to form a single committee to probe the Benghazi bloodbath in which four Americans died — and the alleged cover-up afterward — is gaining steam, with 172 lawmakers in favor of it.
"The reason is, we have six different committees [now] looking at it and all good people — I'm not criticizing any of them," Wolf, a Republican, told former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoeskstra, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But many of the hearings have been private. A few that have been public ... the member of Congress only has five minutes to ask the question. Sometimes they take two minutes to ask ... and the witness sees that the clock is running out."
Wolf, whose Virginia district covers the state's northwest and western suburbs of Washington, D.C., said a select committee is needed similar to those formed to look into the Iran-Contra scandal and the Watergate break-in.
"You have a chairman, a ranking member or their designee from the Intel Committee, the Armed Service Committee ... Judiciary Committee ... Homeland Security, Government Operations," he said.
"And lastly, we need foreign affairs, because it was a consulate and the State Department."
Wolf said he believes if lawmakers don't get to the bottom of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack and its aftermath, "Congress will be complicit in this cover-up."
He believes many of the witnesses being interviewed fear for their jobs if they say too much.
"People live in fear. If you're 55 years old, have three kids in college, own a house in McLean or up in Maryland, you're not going to risk your career," he said.
"They have seen how [whistleblower] Greg Hicks was treated. His career at the State Department is over."
Hicks is the former deputy chief of mission in Libya who said at least two of the Americans who died could have been saved if the United States had responded more rapidly. Hicks believes he has been "punished" for speaking out.
One of those killed was U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens.
Wolf said: "We lost four people. Four people. We also had two severely wounded. One … is still out at Walter Reid ... and the injuries are very, very severe.
"We have another severely wounded ... and the contrast is, [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton is now making a couple hundred thousand dollars a speech. Not a year, but a speech."
