Ex-Army Col.: Shia Militia Likely Responsible for Rocket Attack on Iranian Exiles in Iraq

The deadly rocket attack on a camp of Iranian exiles in Iraq is likely the work of the Mukhtar Army, the Shia Iraqi militia group created by Wathiq al-Battat, a former top Hezbollah official, retired U.S. Army Col. Wes Martin, tells Newsmax TV.

"Right now, all fingers are pointing towards his army, which is pro-Iranian…. He has said he'll do anything to support the ayatollah in Tehran," Martin said Friday on "Newsmax Prime."

The pounding air assault on the camp — home to more than 2,000 unarmed Iranian exiles, most supporters of the Iranian opposition group the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran — killed at least 23 people, including one woman.

"They received 80 rockets, 220 millimeters rockets that came into the camp," said Martin, who added that he is working to get the White House involved.

"Unfortunately, [President] Barack Obama campaigned on redistribution of wealth. What we got is redistribution of power. Everybody's getting the power except us," Martin said.

Members of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq were embraced by Saddam Hussein in the 1980s during the war with neighboring Iran, but they fell out of favor after the Iraqi dictator's regime was toppled in the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
