Donald Trump's endorsement by the
National Rifle Association burnishes its reputation as "politically astute" — and helps the GOP presumptive nominee with "nailing down the right flank," consultant Michael Flanagan tells
Newsmax TV.
In an interview Friday with "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth, the former Illinois GOP congressman said the NRA support weakens the "Never Trump people."

"When lobbyists and organizations as politically astute as the NRA" rally around Trump, "whatever else you might want to say about them, they're political geniuses," he said.
To "have them pick a winner at this point only gives gravitas to Trump in a belief that he's going to keep his word on [the Second Amendment] and every issue," Flanagan said.
"It's absolutely designed to nail down the right and Trump is brilliant to show up… and kiss them on both cheeks and say 'I love you guys, I want to help you and I'm going to be with you' and they're going to show up in the same measure for him."
Flanagan also credited Trump for his labeling of past rivals and likely general election rival Hillary Clinton, calling it the "end of politically correct speech."
"It's calling it what it is" and considering the other attack-labels he could have attached to Clinton, "''corrupt Hillary' is probably the least brutal one… and it's the most communicative one," Flanagan asserted.
"The scandals involving her, her husband [former President Bill Clinton] and the presidency that they had — or shared, depending on who you're talking to — is limitless," Flanagan said. "The list goes on and on and on right into today with [Hillary Clinton's private email] server and the emails."
"With [their] friends in the press basically they've won every argument," he added. "They're not going to win this one."
