Tom DeLay: Obamacare Foe Tom Price 'Great Pick' for Health Boss

Donald Trump is right on the money with his choice of Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., to head the Department of Health and Human Services, former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV.

"What a great pick – one of the best picks he's done so far," DeLay told host Steve Malzberg on Tuesday's "America Talks Live." "Tom Price was the leader against Obamacare. He understands Obamacare. He's actually read the law on Obamacare.

"People need to understand that there is nowhere in the Constitution that gives Congress or the federal government the authority to be involved in healthcare. If the states want to do this kind of thing, then the states have every right to do so.

"But the federal government needs to get out of healthcare and stay out of it. I know that's where he's starting from. . . . This whole notion of setting up a new welfare program and subsidizing people's healthcare insurance is unconstitutional for the federal government to do."

Asked about Trump's search for the next secretary of state — reportedly a choice between former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — DeLay said the president-elect is "struggling."

"I think he's getting a lot of pressure from a lot of different groups," Delay told Malzberg, referring to Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway's trashing of Romney. "It was evident by Trump's inner circle going out in the media and inviting this internal fight which I think is very unusual.

"It looks like Trump approved it, but if that's his management style, I think he's going to rue the day that you have to let your internal fights find their way into the media."

Delay, who represented Texas's 22nd congressional district from 1985 to 2006, is the author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth! A Radical Call from the Former Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives," written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
