Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, praised the recovery effort that's ongoing in his home state as floodwaters begin to recede in and around the Houston area because of Hurricane Harvey.
During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Poe told host Bill Tucker his district — which encompasses areas in northern and western Houston — took a massive hit from the storm.

"It's going to be a long, long process," Poe said of the cleanup. "The rains have stopped, the floods have started to recede and go back in their banks except in a couple of areas where we have the Brazos River.
"People are getting out and taking stuff that has been damaged and putting it out in the front of their house. Other people are helping each other. It's very heartening to see how many people are helping people that they don't even know to get their houses in somewhat of a better shape and that people helped each other during the flood."
Harvey dumped more than 50 inches of rain on the Houston area, which left thousands of people stranded and thousands of homes flooded. Some towns are still inaccessible by land because of high floodwaters.
"That is an unbelievable amount of rain to go anywhere, especially in an area like Houston that is flat, that is at sea level, where water has no place to go so it stays for a while before it can go down the bayous to the Gulf of Mexico," Poe said.
Poe added the storm left a trail of "massive destruction" from where it made landfall in Rockport, near Corpus Christi, all the way up to the Louisiana border.
