"In the face of that devastation, we're seeing acts of heroism that takes your breath away," the former 2016 Republican presidential candidate told "The Joe Pags Show" in an interview.

"We're seeing first-responders, fire fighters, police officers, EMS, Coast Guards, the National Guards just risking their lives and doing so over and over and over again.
"We've had over 7,000 high-water rescues.
"We're also seeing ordinary citizens, men and women, when the flooding became so widespread that it exceeded the capacity of law enforcement and first-responders," Cruz said.
"The local officials put out a call to private citizens that if you've got a boat and can help, we need your help," he told Pags. "There are literally hundreds of private citizens who just got in their boats and started saving their neighbors.
"It's an incredible demonstration, really an inspiring demonstration of Texans helping Texans.
"There are no divisions," the first-term senator continued. "There's no time for partisan division or racial divisions or any other divisions to tear us apart.
"We are drawn together as Texans and Americans and with love for our neighbors."
