House Speaker John Boehner's controversial criticism of tea party activists was a "visceral" response to groups he believes are hurting the Republican Party, according to Susan Ferrechio, chief congressional correspondent for The Washington Examiner.
"I think this is more about responding kind of viscerally to what the outside groups who are inspired by the tea party and funded by the tea party. What they have done … is turn against the party," Ferrechio told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"They started running ads against their own members, they started really pressuring and trying to insert themselves here, but mostly spending money to run against your own party is a big no-no and that's why Boehner got out there and turned against them."
Ferrechio said Boehner's focus is now "all about 2014," and believes groups like Heritage Action and Club may hurt the GOP.
