President Donald Trump is dead wrong in his plan to impose stiff tariffs on imported steel and aluminum and going to hurt a lot more Americans than he will protect in doing so, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV on Monday.
"It's just the wrong principle, it's a horrible mistake," DeLay, a Texas Republican, told Miranda Khan on Monday's "America Talks Live."
"We knew it was coming because Trump told us it was coming when he was running for president. But this is just incredibly bad policy. I'm a free trader and you can imagine that if he was going to do something in the trade arena, then tear down the barriers to American good overseas."

Last Thursday, Trump said he will soon institute a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum imports.
The administration has defended the move as saying it will protect American workers, but several industries that rely on steel to manufacture their products claim the tariffs will cost them money, workers could be laid off, and consumers will pay more for goods.
DeLay told Khan: "This affects every American. He's talking about America First; yet, in order to protect 140,000 workers in the steel and aluminum industry, he's going to hurt two million workers in other industries that use steel."
DeLay is the author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth!: A Radical Call from the Former Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives," written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
