Rep. Steve King: Trump Tapped Into Cruz's Immigration Ideas

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is the best Republican presidential candidate to deal with the nation's exploding immigration problems — so much so that some of his solutions have been borrowed by Donald Trump, says Rep. Steve King, a member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security.

"Trump's policy is 11 pages, it's detailed, and it cites legislation that's been introduced — some by me, some by [Sen.] Jeff Sessions [of Alabama], some by Ted Cruz," King, an Iowa Republican, said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It gives you confidence that as a president Ted Cruz will do the things he said he's going to do and … figure out how to get it done."

Cruz, who King supports, and Trump are now neck-and-neck in a new Quinnipiac University poll of GOP Iowa caucus voters — the billionaire developer with 28 percent and the Lone Star State lawmaker with 27 percent.

But King said he is ready to support whoever the GOP nominee is.

"I just recently told [Trump], 'if you're the nominee, I'm all in, Donald,'" he told Malzberg.

King added he is disturbed by the hints of some Republican candidates who so dislike Trump they would renege on their pledges to back the eventual GOP nominee if he's the winner — chatter that could spur the real estate tycoon to a third-party run.

"I'm uneasy about that, King said, "We're in this together and we know what happened when we had Ross Perot [running for president]. He brought Bill Clinton to the presidency. We don't need that kind of a candidate bringing Hillary to the presidency," King said.
