Americans regardless of political party "have little faith anymore and the ability of government to act independently and to police itself and do the right thing," Emmy Award-winning television journalist Sharyl Attkisson told Newsmax TV on Friday.
"We've finally reached a point where most people probably agree that the government makes its own rules for convenience and exempt itself from laws and accountability for its own benefit just like the corrupt society that we've always tried not to emulate," she told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview.
"We've seen too many examples of where they're exempted from the kind of accountability that the public would be held to in instance after instance."

Attkisson is the former CBS News investigative reporter who now hosts the syndicated news-magazine program, "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson."
She cited news reports that emails released Tuesday by Judicial Watch showed that FBI had asked the Department of Justice earlier this year to investigate the Clinton Foundation, but the department declined.
"The DOJ investigates itself and the White House when it comes to IRS misdeeds and says nothing happened or nothing needs to be done.
"Who investigates Loretta Lynch for meeting with [Bill] Clinton while Hillary is under investigation and possibly the Clinton Foundation? Nobody.
"Who investigates the DOJ when it doesn't respond properly to [Freedom of Information] requests?" Attkisson asked. "Who holds federal agencies accountable when they mismanage records and provide false information to Congress?
"We see time and time again that this has grown impossible," she continued. "Even when independent [inspectors general] have recommended action, federal agencies rebuke them and marginalize them.
"They just refuse to be held accountable."
