In 1973, the world was stunned at the publication of “The Gulag Archipelago,” an exhaustive three-volume expose written between 1958 and 1968 in which Solzhenitsyn, a Russian writer, bared the cruel and inhumane practices at Soviet labor camps located in remote regions of Siberia.

It was one of the most important books of the 20th Century — an account so shocking few believed it could be true. But the real story of how Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago" came to be published is just as remarkable as the manuscript itself.

In “Secret History: The Gulag Archipelago,” Solzhenitsyn, who had been a gulag prisoner himself, and a team of sympathizers describe how they smuggled his masterpiece to the West.

Filmed in Moscow, Lithuania, Bremen, Stockholm, and Paris, “Secret History: The Gulag Archipelago” gives audiences an uncensored look at what it was like to live in these camps founded by Soviet strongman Lenin and hidden deep behind the Iron Curtain.

“Secret History: The Gulag Archipelago," directed by French filmmakers Jean Crépu and Nicolas Miletitch, adds to the diverse programming featured on Newsmax TV, now carried in more than 40 million U.S. satellite and cable homes.

With compelling original shows such as "The Jesse Lee Peterson Show," "Newsmax Now," "America Talks Live," "The Wayne Allyn Root Show," "The Brett Winterble Show," "The Howie Carr Show," "The Joe Walsh Show," "The Joe Pags Show," and "The Schnitt Show," Newsmax TV has become the nation's must-watch news, lifestyle, and information channel.
