Action against Russia should have been taken during the Obama administration for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV, but he said the practice is not entirely unheard of either.
Reagan was on Wednesday's "Newsmax Now" and commented on the executive order President Donald Trump signed that gives the federal government the authority to sanction people or foreign countries who try to meddle in U.S. elections.
"I think that it probably should have been done a long time ago by Barack Obama, not this president of the United States," Reagan said. "And the reality of it is that this has been going on for a long time. This didn't start in 2016; it started way before 2016. I can go back to 1979, 1980, 1984.
"This has been going on where you have foreign countries who, in fact, have tried to get involved in our elections. But on the other side of the equation, we've also tried to get involved in other people's elections. That's just how the world works."
