Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., angrily dismissed the Senate trial of former President Donald Trump that began Tuesday as a purely political exercise to distract voters from the Democrats’ “far left agenda.”
In an interview on Newsmax TV’s “John Bachman Now,” Reschenthaler blasted President Joe Biden for going back on his inauguration vow to be a unifier.
“This is all politics,” he said of the trial. “We were told during the entire campaign by Joe Biden when he was sitting in his basement that he was going to bring unity and healing and reconciliation of the country.
“I don't think impeaching a president is very unifying because they're not only going after President Trump by extension, they're going after the 75 million Americans who voted for the president.”
Instead the trial stops the discussion of job losses a Biden agenda would trigger, he argued.
“We're not talking about Joe Biden on day number one, canceling that Keystone XL pipeline, which killed hundreds of thousands of union jobs,” he said. “We're not talking about the minimum wage hike, which is going to make 1.2 million Americans unemployed. … We’re again talking about President Trump.”
The lawmaker said another one of the Democrats' aims in the trial is to “make sure” Trump can’t run in 2024.
“They know that after a disastrous four years of Biden and [Vice President Kamala] Harris, whoever fills out this term it is gonna be time for Republican to win again and they don't want President Trump back in the White House because he would win if he runs again in 2024.”
Reschenthaler lamented that the Biden administration agenda will hit hardest on people who want to enter the work force.
“What they failed to really realize is that you're going to kill a lot of jobs,” he explained. “You'd have a reduction in revenue because of those Americans aren't working, they’re not paying taxes. Then think about what it's going to do to everybody who wants to actually enter the workforce. If you can't get on that first rung, it's hard for you to climb the ladder as you work your way up and that’s what you're going to see.”
“There's a complete ignorance from this administration, from liberals, on how the energy sector actually works,” Reschenthaler added.
“You can't make a window without steel. You can't make steel without coal. You can't make solar panels without rare Earth elements… I can't just plug my Tesla into the ground and the sun is going to charge it.”
