Author Howard: Too Many Regulations Bogging Down the Nation

By    |   Monday, 21 April 2014 02:27 PM EDT

The author of a new book calls Obamacare the latest example of the U.S. government bogging down the country with more unnecessary laws.

Philip K. Howard told J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV Monday that the Affordable Care Act is just one example of how federal, state and local regulations have stripped both parties in Washington of common sense and judgment, which is the subject of his book "The Rule of Nobody: Saving America from Dead Laws and Broken Government."

Story continues below video.

"The Affordable Care Act, with 2,700 pages of statutes and seven feet of rules, is one example," Howard said. "It's this idea that we can write enough words that will make everything work properly instead of letting people use their judgment.

"So, we've been writing all of these rules and regulations now for decades and we never ever clean them out. At this point, America's ranked 20th in the world in ease of starting a business because there's so many permits required to do even the simplest things."
