Former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn knows who the real experts are in the presidential election: the everyday voters.
During an interview on
Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Prime," Flynn told host J.D. Hayworth he is listening to his fellow Bostonians to get their take on the election.
"I kind of listen to what the people in my neighborhood and the city have to say about things," said Flynn, who also served as U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See under President Bill Clinton. "I think those are the real experts. Those are the people who are ultimately going to make the decision."
Flynn said both presumptive nominees — Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton — "have achieved what they have set out to do, but the chase now for both of them is to try to swing a little bit to the center and try to bring in those people who are not affiliated with a particular party or not affiliated with a particular candidate but in ideology the Democrat or Republican, but are Americans who vote for the person, not necessarily for the party.
"I actually put myself into that category as well. I listen to them. I think I have a good sense of what they're thinking about."
Later in the interview, Flynn said he's relieved to see the persecution of Christians being discussed during this election season.
"I'm glad somebody's finally talking about Christian persecution in the world today," said Flynn, alluding to
Trump's remarks on the topic. "I think that's one of those issues that is going to be a defining issue in the presidential campaign."
