President Donald Trump scored big with his speech in Poland on Thursday because "he doesn't get distracted when he's overseas," former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra told Newsmax TV.
"The president has done this a number of times traveling overseas," the former Michigan Republican congressman told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker in an interview.
"He was pitch perfect when he went to Saudi Arabia, to Israel, and to Rome on his first trip overseas," he said. "He called out Russia in Poland.
"He and his national security team, they think fairly in-depth and fairly strategically as he goes out and makes these comments," Hoekstra said.

In Warsaw, Trump said he wanted to see Poland and its neighbors were "never again held hostage" to a single supplier of energy.
Russia is one of the largest suppliers of energy to the European Union.
He also said "our people will thrive and our civilization will triumph."
Trump also praised Poland's resilience in the face of historic threats from Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, declaring "let us all fight like Poles."
"He doesn't get distracted when he's overseas," Hoekstra told Tucker. "When he's in the United States, he sometimes gets distracted, as we all know.
"When he's overseas, he's focused.
"He recognizes the risks that are at stake – and he's pretty good at saying what's important to him."
