The New York primary race on Tuesday proved "clearly that John Kasich is the candidate that does well in the Northeast versus Ted Cruz," former Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra told
Newsmax TV.
"John's going to have to up his game as we move forward into Pennsylvania, as we move into Maryland, Connecticut, and some of these states," Hoekstra, a Kasich supporter, told host J.D. Hayworth on "America Votes: 2016" in an interview. "He's going to have to close that gap between him and Donald Trump if he expects this to go to a multi-ballot convention."

However, "if we don't get that nomination, I think John Kasich would be a perfect match for Donald Trump," Hoekstra said. "John's got the experience — and he's got the results at the federal level and the state level.
"He's a perfect complement to Donald Trump," he added. "Whether he'd take it if offered, I don't know."
