Paul Ryan: Citizenry Open to GOP Ideas on Limited Government

By    |   Monday, 29 September 2014 11:09 PM EDT

Rep. Paul Ryan says Republicans owe it to the country to show how they would do things differently if they were in charge.

Most Americans think the government is on the wrong track, the Wisconsin Republican said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

"That means their minds are open to a different way forward," he said.

As the midterm elections draw nearer, Ryan said GOP candidates should tell voters "how we would apply our limited government principles to the problems of the day to show they're better solutions than the kind of government we've got."

Ryan was Mitt Romney's presidential running mate in 2012, and said the ticket faced a challenge because they were "debating against big government in theory," since President Barack Obama delayed putting Obamacare and other parts of his agenda into practice until 2013.

"Well, now we've got big government in practice," Ryan said, pointing to the unhappiness many have with the Affordable Care Act.

Republicans, he said need to give people "a very clear choice," Ryan said, so we "can fix this country's problems before they get out of control."
