Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan says the town of Ferguson, Missouri, is being unfairly defamed as a "racist hellhole" following the clearing of Police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of Michael Brown.
"It has been slandered and demonized and has been portrayed as some sort of racist hellhole when neither the cops, nor Wilson, nor the city have done anything to deserve this," Buchanan said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

"The president is sitting up in the UN talking about what horrible things are going on in Ferguson … Yet, the attorney general went up there and slandered that place and called for a wholesale investigation of the Ferguson police.
"What in heaven's name have the Ferguson police ever done to deserve what has been done to them?"
Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder said a federal civil rights probe into the fatal shooting of Brown, a black teenager, will go ahead despite a St. Louis County grand jury's decision to not indict Wilson, who is white.
Holder said the federal inquiry has been independent of the local investigation "from the start, and remains so now … Even at this mature stage of the investigation, we have avoided prejudging any of the evidence."
Protesters have organized demonstrations across the country to rally against what they believe was junk justice.
Buchanan, an adviser to Presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, said it is "astonishing" Holder is probing the Ferguson police, while there is a "national conspiracy" to disrupt daily life with protests against Wilson's exoneration.
He said the efforts have included trying to shut down cities by blocking highways, bridges, and commuter trains.
"Why isn't the Justice Department investigating that? That's a massive violation of the civil rights of commuters, travelers, workers, and everyone," Buchanan said.
"The whole thing putting the burden of this on the innocent is what is being done."
