Legendary singer Pat Boone told Newsmax TV on Tuesday he is planning a pilgrimage to Israel to coincide with the Jewish state's 70th anniversary in May because "it's just recognizing . . . the tremendous contributions Israel has made to the whole world."
"Jerusalem has always been the capital of Israel, but the president is recognizing it," Boone told host John Bachman on "Newsmax Now." "We're putting our embassy there."

President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December, saying the U.S. Embassy would be moved there from Tel Aviv.
The State Department said Friday the new embassy would open May 14, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Israel as an independent state.
Boone's pilgrimage, set for May 9-18, will include a concert at the Roman Amphitheater in the ancient coastal city of Caesarea to be taped for international television.
"It's not political," Boone told Bachman. "It's to celebrate the contributions Israel has made, particularly in these past 70 years.
"I go back to what God told Abraham and his descendants: 'Through you and your descendants, all the nations of the Earth will be blessed.'"
"Well, Israel is fulfilling that," Boone said, referring to Genesis 22:18 of the Old Testament. "That promise was also made to Isaac and Jacob, as well, and they are blessing the whole world."
