There's no love lost between Keith Olbermann and MSNBC — and Olbermann made it clear this week that nothing has changed about his feelings towards his old network.
On Wednesday, the liberal gabber and sports-talk host took to Twitter to deliver a jaw-dropping appraisal of the ratings-challenged cable giant.
A fan tweeted to Olbermann: "Do you ever look at the hot mess that is @msnbc and giggle?"
To which Olbermann shot back: "No. It's like watching friends in a crashing car w/a drunk driver."
Olbermann's MSNBC jabs are nothing new.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the story, Olbermann has said he hasn't watched the network since 2009 — even though he worked there through 2011, when he left to go to Current TV.
When asked by TalkingPointsMemo.com about a segment on the Joe Scarborough-hosted "Morning Joe," Olbermann replied: "I don't know anything about this as I've never watched Scarborough's shows and I stopped watching msnbc in 2009."
Olbermann spent eight years at MSNBC and hosted a liberal-leaning show called "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."
But in 2011, Olbermann was suddenly gone with MSNBC issuing a brief statement during the host’s sign-off saying that MSNBC and Olbermann had “ended their contract” and the cable network wished him “well in his future endeavors.”
Olbermann had two years left on his four-year $30 million contract.
As Newsmax reported after his exit, Olbermann’s on-air style has roiled longtime NBC news anchors, including Tom Brokaw and Andrea Mitchell, who made grumblings about the MSNBC host.
According to the New York Times, executives at NBC were even thinking about changing the name of the news website, MSNBC.com, to distance it from the Peacock.
In November 2010, Olbermann was given an indefinite suspension for donating money to the campaigns of two Democratic candidates.
Olbermann now hosts shows on ESPN2 and TBS' postseason baseball coverage.
