Ex-Rep. Flanagan: Short-Term Funding 'Right Way to Go'

By    |   Tuesday, 02 December 2014 11:20 AM EST

Funding the government into early 2015, allowing the new Congress to address the issue of funding President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty order, is "the right way to go," according to former Illinois Congressman Michael Flanagan, who appeared Tuesday on Newsmax TV's "America’s Forum."

"Congress was arguing about whether or not certain tax breaks should be extended in short term or longer term," he said. "The president threatened to veto that concept so they're stuck with something that will get them just into next year and that's the right way to go. Shutting down the government is not a good idea.

"Politically, it was never to our benefit, but governmentally, this kind of craziness needs to not happen. We can get ourselves through the next few months into the next year and get the regular budget cycle going without great harm to the republic."
