Heritage's Moore: Amnesty Will Divide Country 'Right in Half'

Wednesday, 19 November 2014 03:00 PM

President Barack Obama's plan to use his executive power to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants will trigger anger and turmoil across the nation, says Stephen Moore, chief economist for The Heritage Foundation.

"This is just going to divide the country right in half. It's going to cause people marching in the streets," Moore said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"People are going to be so angry about this and it's going to poison the well. Immigration reform is done under this president."

And, Moore said, Americans will quickly see a negative economic impact from the commander-in-chief's action, which he is expected to announce Thursday night in a nationally-televised address.

"I'm very pro-immigration. People want to come here and work. I'm all for it, but the big problem here is they're here illegally and we have Obamacare now. That's 5 million people who are immediately going to be signed up for Obamacare," Moore said.

"I just passed by the debt clock here in New York and it is $17.5 trillion. We don't have money for this. When a government is $17 trillion in debt, we can't be putting 5 million illegal aliens on Obamacare."

Moore said Obama's decision to buck GOP sentiment and barrel ahead with an executive order on immigration, shows that for the White House, "It's like the election never happened."

"First, he does this bogus climate change with China. Then, he puts all his political muscle behind getting Democrats to vote against the Keystone XL pipeline," Moore said.

"How loudly do the voters have to scream, 'We want jobs!' And then this immigration thing."

Moore said the president's vow to be "transformational" in changing the course of America has resulted in an increase in spending in debt and a nationalization of the healthcare system with the Affordable Care Act.

"Both of those two things without a single Republican vote. What's left on his agenda?" Moore asked.

"He wants to do the radical climate change agenda and move America off of fossil fuels, even though we have more fossil fuels than any other country in the world and it's the one industry that's growing.

"The last thing he wants to do is provide amnesty for immigrants. From his standpoint, that's a grand slam right?"

These last-ditch moves in the twilight years of the Obama presidency reveal that the Democrats are "melting down" as a party, Moore believes.

"What it says is this party is in the grips of a radical, greed movement that is against jobs, industry and the free enterprise system. This is going to be the downfall of the Democratic Party," he said.

"If you look at the exit polls from two weeks ago, what was number one? Jobs. What was number two? The economy. What was number 48? Climate change.

"Yesterday, the Democrats put climate change ahead of jobs and the economy. It's that simple."

As for his advice to Hillary Clinton as she gets closer to a run for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, Moore told Steve Malzberg:

"If I were Hillary, if I were her adviser, I would say … come out against the lunatic fringe of the Democratic Party. This is not your father's Democratic Party. It is not."
