The White House overreacted to the invitation Congress offered to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session on the subject of Iran, says Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard.
House Speaker John Boehner had every right to offer the invitation, Kristol said, though some observers have remarked that it was a breach of protocol for him not to inform the Obama administration.
"It felt petty and childish," Kristol said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV. "If they want to privately say to Boehner, 'Hey, you should give us a head's up, fine. But for the White House press secretary to whine about that?"

Kristol also took shots at potential GOP presidential candidates such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who lost in 2012 to Barack Obama.
"Bush is not as strong as people think; Mitt Romney won't be as strong as people think," Kristol said.
"I just can't believe the party wants to look backwards. The younger guys have a real shot."
