George H.W. Bush's former chief of staff John Sununu has tipped his hat to President-elect Donald Trump and his one-time nemesis, Mitt Romney, for breaking bread and a discussing the possible appointment of the former Massachusetts governor as secretary of state.
"I think both men showed a great deal of character and support for the party and the country and the world, frankly, by burying the hatchet at their meeting," Sununu, who also served as governor of New Hampshire, said Monday to Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live."
"It says a lot about both of them . . . It's a great demonstration by Donald Trump that he wants to talk to and appoint good people.
"And it's a great demonstration by Mitt Romney that this is now his president, the country's president and he's willing to help in ways that are appropriate."

Sununu also said he'd be "pleased'' to see Romney, a two-time GOP presidential candidate, in the position now held by John Kerry, and believes he would work closely with Trump.
"I'm sure they discussed whatever differences might be of concern if an appointment were made. I think if an appointment were made you're going to see a very consistent policy between the president and state," Sununu told Malzberg.
The Trump-Romney meeting, at one of the billionaire developer's golf courses in Bedminster, New Jersey, follows a tense year of name calling between the two men. Romney labelled Trump "a phony" and Trump called Romney a "choke artist."
Sununu is author of "The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George H.W. Bush," published by Broadside Books.
